The second team we present is Beasts of the Southern Wild. Who is this couple and why do they call themselves beasts?

What made you to sign up for LWC?
We have a sweet spot for extra long races. 5 day rogaining-like competition sounds like really fun – the kind of a competition that Minttu’s sister and Pontus’ mother tell us that we are crazy to participate in. Also we just love Lapland during summer.
What kind of trip you expect LWC to be?
Lots of quality time! It probably includes some crying or raging around the third day when Minttu gets too hungry and too tired. But it’s only part of that “for better, for worse” -thing. And she gets over it really fast when she gets some food.
Tell something about your team. What does the name stand for?
We are a married couple from Espoo who have been competing in multisport and rogaining together since we started dating. We like endurance sports, hiking and Lapland. When we started competing together we decided that our team name is always going to be a movie title that suits the occasion – and we didn’t feel like “Napapiirin sankarit” [Heroes of the Arctic Circle] this time.
What is the longest distance you have traveled in terrain (by foot) in 24 hours?
We actually haven’t done any really long distances together – yet. Pontus’ longest distance is 160 km in NUTS Karhunkierros (the whole race – 166 km – took a bit over 24 hours, so it was about 160 km in 24 hours). Minttu’s longest distance is about 90 km in rogaining Finnish Championship a couple of years ago.
What’s your goal in LWC?
- Not to make too ambitious plans.
- To make it to finish and to supper on Thursday in time.
- To have lots of quality time and be on good terms (and married) also when we come to the finish.
