Team #Liitonmatkassa (Sauli Vilén & Antti Tikka) consider Vätsäri as their “home turf”.

Why did you decide to register to this race?

We have been trekking in Vätsäri wilderness area for many years and it was an easy decision to sign up as the competition takes place in our ”home turf”.

What kind of trip you expect LWC to be?

We want to challenge ourselves especially with orienteering and test our limits when it comes to daily distances. Trip will be tough, but hopefully super rewarding.

Tell something about your team. What does the name stand for?

Name comes from Ski Federation (Hiihtoliitto). It has nothing to do with skiing or official Ski Federation, it is just an inside joke among our friends..

What is the longest distance you have traveled in terrain (by foot) in 24 hours?

Usually we have been travelling with heavy gear (backpacks around 25 kg) in rough terrain (Vätsäri). Thereby our daily distances have usually been 20–30km/day. The longest has been around 40 km. It will be very interesting to see how much longer we can now travel with much lighter gear (less than 15 kg) and longer daylight (we usually trek in autumn).

What’s your goal in LWC?

Our goal is to challenge ourselves and to have a succesful race. Of course we want to enjoy this unique trip as much as possible. 🙂
