Why did you decide to register to this race?
We both have participated to various types of cross country competitions. The fact that we are getting older and slower has to be compensated by the shear length of the competition. And, never been in Utsjoki before.
What kind of trip you expect LWC to be?
We believe LWC is somehow a combination of the 72 h Finnish Erävaelluksen SM (wandering/hiking competition) and 24 h orienteering competition of the International Rogaining Federation, but in a 120 h format.
Tell something about your team. What does the name stand for?
We have known each other over 40 years and competed first time 1979 in the same team as youngsters + tens of times after during the years. LEK stands for Liedon Eränkävijät, i.e. our scouting unit in Lieto, South-West Finland.
What is the longest distance you have traveled in terrain (by foot) in 24 hours?
115 km and 95 km.
What’s your goal in LWC?
Enjoy the challenge – full 120 hours!
Teamwork shouldn’t be a problem for LEK (Ismo Laitakari and Mika Kurkilahti), as they have been competing together more than 40 years.
